This term’s Halfway Show, which was held last December 13, 2017 at the International Academy of Film and Television Acting Studio, was stripped bare to the basics and presented pieces that dealt with relationships between friends, lovers, co-workers, and with one’s self.

Directed by IAFT’s very own Acting Mentor, Alex Murphy, the show opened with individual personal monologues performed by our Performing Arts-Acting students. Each one bared their emotions through their thought-provoking pieces.  From snickering laughs to heart wrenching lines, it was a roller coaster ride of emotions that left the audience wanting more.

The halfway show showed selected scenes from Broadway and Off- Broadway hits “Women,” “Boys Life,” “Lobby Hero,” and “The Scene.” This challenged our actors on how to seamlessly interact with each other as well as bring out a bit (or a lot) of chemistry between each other.  Each scene was wisely played, leaving an impact to the viewers’ emotions. The night wrapped up with an enchanting musical song number from the cast, before bidding the guests farewell.

 

The International Academy of Film and Television halfway shows are held every 6th week of each term, followed up with the final shows happening every 10th week or the last week of the term. What’s great about attending our plays is that not only will you get a chance to experience a glimpse of a professional playwright production; these are always open to public with FREE Admission! Heritage Productions of Charles and Sunshine Lim, has created a significant mark in the Bisaya film industry with the raging success during the premiere of All-Cebuano casted Romantic Comedy film, #MTK “Magbuwag Ta Kay…” (Let’s Break-up Kay…).

The story of #MTK revolves around the couple, Roy (Rowell Ucat/Medyo Maldito) and and his girlfriend, Kay (Akiko Solon), who were planning for the best way to end their relationship after receiving the sudden news that Kay will be moving to Canada for good. The two decided to break up since LDR (Long Distance Relationship) will never work.

This bittersweet love story acknowledges that when heartbreak is eminent, there’s always a good and better way to say goodbye to the one you love. The scenes were genuinely portrayed and the spot-on performances of all the actors involved made the movie seamless and relatable that touched the hearts of the cinema audience. Separation is never easy, but the movie was portrayed with excitable frivolity and subtle humor paired with an amazing backdrop of some of Cebu’s notable sights and scenic spots.

Indeed, the writers, cast, and crew did make their best in telling the story. #MTK created a fun and lighthearted kind of approach of what happens when love and life takes place. It has an unofficial slogan “Bisaya Napud!,” the film has become a testament that Cebuano talents do have what it takes to make quality films comparable, if not better, than some of its Manila-based counterparts.

The International Academy of Film and Television is proud to be part of this well produced film that carries a good message about a selfless love, family and friendship. #MTK is a film by Ms. Janice Perez and co-directed by IAFT Filmmaking Alumnus, Rueben Joseph “RJ” Aquino. Also part of the film are IAFT current Acting Student Denise Kristie Tan (Friend of Kay) and IAFT Filmmaking Alumnus Hannah May Ybalez (Script Supervisor), Marvene Rom C. Munda (Camera) and Cheryl Centeno (DIT/colorist).
